This gas overlies the remaining pigment particles, resulting in 2 problems:

  1. A shielding effect – Gas above pigments protects the remaining pigments from subsequent laser beams. As a result, repeated pigment breakdown within a single session is not possible; you have to come back for repeat sessions after 1-3 months and duration for complete treatment is prolonged.

  2. Higher complication rate: The gas bubbles formed result in blister formation as air is trapped beneath the skin. These blisters result in longer downtime after each laser, and predispose to possible scarring or infections.

In a standard tattoo removal procedure, a Q-switched laser is used to strike the tattoo pigment, which causes steam and gas to be produced and trapped under the skin. This creates a barrier known as "frosting". The frosted layer blocks any further treatments from effectively reaching the deeper pigment that is left over.

 

Fotona’s innovative FracTAT® technology, based on high-energy pulses of fractional Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, enables extremely high peak powers to be concentrated in a matrix of tiny spots, inducing fractional photoacoustic shockwaves below the tissue surface (non-ablative mode) or even micro-puncturing the tissue surface (ablative mode) when higher energies are used.

When the Fotona patented FracTAT® procedure is performed,

micro-holes are drilled into the skin using a high energy

fractional ablative laser. This is followed by Q-switched tattoo

removal. The micro-holes act as relief ducts that enable gasses

formed in the tattoo removal step to escape and enable more

efficient pigment destruction and tattoo clearance.

Prior to Treatment

 

Every person wishing to be treated at Advanced Laser Clinic will require a consultation with our Laser Consultant prior to their first treatment.

At this appointment, we welcome all questions to advance your understanding of the treatment. There will be a consultation form to be completed about your health and medications to assess your eligibility for treatment.

It is important to run a patch test on the skin to make sure that the settings are safe and suitable for your skin. If there are no reactions 24 hours after your patch test, we can commence your laser treatment.

Before laser therapy, it is very important that you keep your treated area away from sun exposure. Your skin needs to be protected from the sun for a minimum of two weeks before any treatment commences. It is important for pre and post treatment. The lasers work on delivering a specific temperature at a certain depth in the tissue to produce the desired results. This is the end point that can be aggravated if or when exposed to sun causing unwanted adverse effects on the skin.
